How much does Wegovy cost in New Zealand?
⚕ Medically reviewed: pending (before launch)Why Wegovy is a private cost
Because Pharmac doesn't fund Wegovy for weight loss, you pay for it privately in New Zealand. There's no subsidy for weight-management medicines, so the price you see is the real cost — the same whether you go through a GP, a private prescriber, or a telehealth clinic.
What you're actually paying for
A weight-management programme has two separate costs:
- The medicine — dispensed by a pharmacy, priced per month's supply.
- Clinical care — the prescriber assessment, follow-ups, dose adjustments and ongoing support. Some providers bundle this into a membership; others charge per consult.
Out of pocket, people in New Zealand typically spend several hundred dollars a month all-in. We'll publish exact Changing Curves pricing before launch — founding-member pricing is locked in for people on the waitlist.
What changes the price
- Your dose. GLP-1 medicines are started low and increased over the first months (titration), so early months can cost less than later ones.
- Which medicine. Wegovy, Mounjaro and Saxenda are priced differently — see how they compare.
- Supply. Global demand for these medicines has caused shortages at times, which can affect availability and price.
- The care model. A bundled membership with ongoing support is different from a one-off script.
Is it worth it?
That's a decision for you and your prescriber. These medicines are only appropriate for some people (generally a BMI of 30+, or 27+ with a weight-related condition), and they work alongside diet and activity — not instead of them. A prescriber will talk through the benefits, risks and cost before anything is prescribed.
